What is zumba?

Popular fitness program inspired by latin dance. Its exercise in disguise. The Word ‘zumba’ comes from a Colombian word that means to move fast and have fun. It is aerobic dancing.

How did it originate?

Zumba was founded in 1998 by a Colombian aerobic instructor “Beto perez” who forgot to bring his regular music to his aerobics class. Zumba originated by combining the latin dances, salsa and meringue, Original name was Rumbacize meaning “dance party”.

Why are people more attracted towards it?

First and foremost it is a non monotonous workout. Another aspect is the fun content it has to offer. Lot of dance and aerobic movements were performed with energetic loud music. The rhythms are so fast and the music being peppy you feel the energy reverberating through your sprit.

Watching yourself and everybody around you dancing makes the exercise fun. The music and the movements together boost up the power of the performer which in turn makes the exercise non boring and preferable.

What are the healthy benefits of zumba?

Zumba combines the movements of samba, salsa, merengue, reggaeton and mambo working out on unique muscle groups and accustoming the joints to more unusual movements and stretches. This improved range of motion boosts posture.

Boosts confidence:

The social aspect of zumba is different from most workout situations. By improving dance moves and physical health in a fun informal setting like a zumba class makes us more comfortable with the body, improves the self confidence. It is an exercise combined with self expression, celebration and exploration of one’s own body.

What are the recommendations to get full benefit?

To get full benefit out of it attend 5 classes a week each for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Attend classes taken by certified zumba instructor. Any age people can do zumba.

Why I continue doing zumba and made it a daily routine?

  • Keeps my brain active always.

Fitness in any form is good. When it is combined with dance, music and fun it is magical . Zumba helps us exercise without the feel that we are exercising. Humans being social animals need interaction, zumba brings positivity and boosts social skills.
